A big step for the Dutch hunk!
Martijn Lakemeier has made an international breakthrough. After his role as Willem-Alexander in the series Máxima, the actor has now secured a spot in the new international Videoland series Safe Harbor.
Willem Alexander
We already knew Martijn Lakemeier from films such as Lover of Loser and Krijgswinter, but we only really noticed him when he was cast in the series about our queen. In Máxima he plays none other than Willem-Alexander, in his younger years, and he is therefore the opponent of the Argentinian Delfina Chaves. The first season can now be admired in all its glory on Videoland, but we now also know that there will be a second part.
Follow-up
“We are extremely proud of the quality of this unique Videoland Original and have therefore already decided to order a second series,” Peter van de Vorst said in a statement in April. “In the first series we see how an Argentinian girl develops into a confident young woman who falls madly in love with a Dutch prince. But of course the story continues. Máxima marries, becomes mother and queen. These are all events that are etched in our collective memory and that we will see again in the future.”
International success
The makers of Máxima can pat themselves on the back, because the series is also a great success internationally. Máxima has already been sold to Germany, Belgium, Latin America, Croatia, Austria, Israel, Latvia, Slovakia, Italy and Hong Kong.
Safe Harbor
Martijn had already taken a good step towards an international career with his role in Máxima, but his real breakthrough now seems to be coming. The actor has been cast in Safe Harbor, a new Videoland series with internationally known names such as Alfie Allen, Charlie Murphy and Jack Gleeson. The series is about a hacker (played by Alfie) and his best friend (played by Martijn) who unintentionally end up in the world of drug trafficking and therefore come into contact with the Irish mafia. It is directed by Mark Williams, who has directed series such as Ozark and The Accountant.
So Martijn will soon travel the world! Safe Harbor won’t be available to stream until 2025, so we’ll have to be patient a little longer. Lover or Loser then again?
