There were quite a few tears to be shed.
Charles has resumed many of his usual duties for more than a month now. A working visit here, a speech there: it’s all back to normal for the king. A D-Day commemoration was traditionally held in Portsmouth, England, on Wednesday. There, Charles gave a public speech for the first time since his cancer diagnosis. And that was accompanied by the necessary emotions.
D Day
Today marks exactly 80 years since the liberation of Europe began and the end of the Second World War approached. Reason enough for the British to come together and commemorate this special day. Eric Batema, among others, told his emotional story about the Normandy invasion in which he was involved during the commemoration on Wednesday. Queen Camilla was of course present and burst into tears during the story. Charles also had to shed a tear.
Speech
After returning to work for more than a month, Charles gave his first public speech since his cancer diagnosis on Wednesday. “We are all forever indebted to them,” he said, referring to the soldiers who helped liberate Europe.

Good developments
At the end of April we were surprised by the positive news that Charles would resume a large part of his work. It seems to be going well with the frost. “The medical team is very encouraged by the progress made to date and remains positive about the king’s continued recovery,” a royal spokesperson said at the time. However, this does not mean that Charles has completely recovered. The medical treatment has not yet been completed, but steps are being taken in the right direction. And the fact that he can give his speeches again seems to us to be an excellent development!
