Buckingham Palace removes controversial comments from Prince Harry

What does this mean for the bond with the Sussexes?

We don’t have to explain to you that things are not going smoothly between the Windsors and the Sussexes. Now it appears Buckingham Palace has quietly removed a statement by Prince Harry about Meghan Markle from their website, raising eyebrows.

Harry and Meghan

The two have now been very happy with each other for a number of years. But when rumors emerged in October 2016 that Harry, the second son of then Prince Charles and brother of the future king, had lost his heart to an American actress, this caused quite a stir.

And that also meant that the press focused completely on who Meghan actually was. Her private life, family, ex-partners, friends, and colleagues were bombarded with telephoto lenses, microphones, bribe offers, and brutal questions about the prince’s alleged girlfriend. This went so far that the official confirmation of their relationship in November was immediately a clear expression of dissatisfaction.

“A line has been crossed in the past week. His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has become the target of a wave of abuse and harassment. “Some of this is very public – the smears on the front page of a national newspaper, the racial overtones of comments, and the blatant sexism and racism of social media trolls and comments on online publications,” it said at the time.

But now this statement has been removed from the British court’s website. What’s up with that?

Tidy

Buckingham Palace – as is so often the case – does not provide any explanation or explanation about the decision. Never complain, never explain still seems to be the unofficial motto. There are various theories about the decision.

For example, PR boss Ryan McCormick tells The Mirror that it may be a ‘sign of an upcoming reconciliation’. “The reason they are removing these negative digital footnotes is to distance themselves from them and reduce the impact on their image,” McCormick said. “While some of Meghan and Harry’s controversial actions will never be forgotten, their likeability is enhanced by positive headlines.”

However, it seems a lot more logical to us that the court is simply doing a major cleaning. For example, last year we saw that Harry and Meghan’s profiles on the website had been significantly shortened. They also had to exchange their prominent spot on the overview page of the Royal Family for a position at the bottom, after they resigned as working royals in 2020. It is therefore not surprising that previous statements by the Sussexes are now slowly disappearing from the site. Fortunately, they now have their own new site, where all this information can still be saved!
