4X situations that you recognize as a workaholic

Are you always the first to arrive at the office and the last to leave? Then you might be a workaholic. In that case you will undoubtedly recognize these situations.

What is a workaholic?

Due to the rise of the internet connection and smartphones, we can be reached anytime and anywhere. Also because we have been working from home much more since the corona period, the line between work and private life is quickly blurring. There are people who can occasionally go overboard with their work, but there is a difference between being passionate about your work and being addicted to the work. Pay close attention to this, because if you recognize these signals you may have a workaholism and you are a workaholic.

1. You are the first to arrive at the office and the last to leave

Someone who is addicted to his or her work will always work longer than the rest of the team. You are the first to arrive and the last to leave, or you log in in the evening to continue working at home. Even on weekends you think about work, and sometimes even open the laptop on a day off to work ahead like a real workaholic.

2. You don’t take breaks

You are often so busy that you forget that you have to eat, drink and go to the toilet. Or your agenda is so full that you want to complete all tasks first. But this is not always good, because you do have to hydrate and eat, walk around or go to the toilet. Working without breaks affects your health: Workalholics often survive on coffee and skip meals, and as you might guess, that’s not the best diet.

3. You rarely go on vacation

Even if you’re on vacation, you can’t resist logging in a few times a day and completing some tasks. It’s a shame, because it looks like a workation. The only difference is that if you took a workation instead of a normal vacation you would continue to get paid.

4. You often cancel social plans

Because you have so much work to do, your agenda is full and you want to work ahead in the event of an empty schedule, you often cancel the plans you made with friends and family at the last minute. Relationships with workaholics are often tense: people feel that less value is placed on the family or friendly bond and people often complain that it is too much about work.
