King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were present this evening at the commemoration meeting in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam, where Dido Michielsen gave the May 4 lecture. Afterwards, a wreath was laid on Dam Square.
As has often been said, National Remembrance Day is not a fashion show. Because clothing and accessories contribute to the dignity of the ceremony, I will briefly discuss Máxima’s fashion here.

About the brooch: This historical gem has connections to Kings Sophie. The first husband of King William III is frequently depicted with this brooch in various paintings. The design of the brooch’s leaves is derived from the leaves of the Württemberg King’s Crown.
