It’s almost time: carnival! We try to prepare as much as possible, but what do we wear? These are last minute ideas to get your outfit.
Carnival on a budget
In many inspiration photos and videos you see outfits from cheap websites such as Shei, Cider, Temu and AliExpress. Very convenient, but if you get in a last-minute pinch, you will see the clothes from these sites arrive much too late. And that’s a shame. We understand if you still want to get a cheap outfit, that’s why we have some tips.
1. What do you already have lying around?
First dig through your own cupboard. What do you already have? You may still have an outfit from previous years or other parties, but if not, normal clothing will go a long way. For example, go like M&M: match clothes of the same color and print out an M&M logo. Or go hippie, with all kinds of crazy prints, a headband and glasses. Do you have a striped shirt? Then you can be a nerd with glasses, or a mime with suspenders.
2. The cycle
Go to the local thrift store. Maybe you can find some accessories there, or maybe a whole suit yourself! The costume section in the thrift store is often skipped, but that doesn’t mean people don’t hand in their older costume items.
3. Ask friends
Ask your friends if they have a nice outfit. They probably have completely different clothes, so you get a completely new outfit. Perhaps a family member such as your mother or grandmother also has something characteristic of the time when they were young, and you can dress up as that era. Be creative!
4. A little bit of everything
Throw everything together and focus on the theme ‘proud to be wrong’! Think of neon accessories, fishnet tights, sweatbands, glitter tops and leopard prints, nothing is too crazy during carnival.
5. Rent
Dress-up shops also often rent out suits. These are often a bit on the pricey side compared to the tips above, but at least you don’t have to worry about only having half an outfit this carnival. Please note that the clothing should not be damaged and that you can simply wash the outfit. Getting beer out is possible, but a crack is difficult to repair. In addition, this is a good option!
