See: Queen Elizabeth appears at Madame Tussauds Amsterdam

Willem-Alexander, Beatrix, and Diana get a new neighbor.

Great news for those who still have room in their agenda for a royal outing in the coming days! Amsterdam’s Madame Tussauds has announced that they have a regal new addition.

Birthday

Although the late Queen Elizabeth is no longer with us, British majesty still lives on in our minds. This weekend was her birthday, and she would have been 98 years old. Unfortunately, she is no longer allowed to experience this.

But the fact that Elizabeth remains popular is evident from an announcement from Amsterdam’s Madame Tussauds! They revealed in a video on social media that the former queen will be on display in the coming weeks as part of their collection of royal wax figures. In addition to the almost lifelike images of our own royal couple, Princess Beatrix, and the late Princess Diana, Elizabeth is now also part of the Amsterdam collection.

Queen on loan

Unfortunately, Lizzy’s image will not be added as a permanent part of the selection of royals. Especially on the occasion of her birthday and the approaching birthday of King Willem-Alexander, the Amsterdam branch of the wax museum has the British queen on loan from Vienna.

A video from the museum shows how the queen is completely dressed up for her Amsterdam appearance. On her head is a replica of the beautiful Burmese ruby tiara, a gem that HM personally had made in the 1970s with the stones from another tiara – the Nizam of Hyderabad diadem.

Wax artwork

Many wax statues of Elizabeth have been made over the years. For example, RTL Boulevard reports that a total of 23 wax works of art were made of the queen, the first of which was made when she was only two (!) years old.

And that takes a lot of work: the most recent wax figure of the late Elizabeth is said to have taken no less than 800 hours by 25 different professionals. Wow!

If you would like to take a snapshot with the British monarch, you would do well to quickly plan a visit to Madame Tussauds. The statue of Elizabeth can only be admired in April and May.
