When I organize a party, the dress code is the same every time: just come as you are. They will also listen to this at court, but a state visit simply requires more. Yet Queen Letizia decided to ignore the dress code today.
The following applies to dress codes: the host or hostess decides. In the case of the Spanish state visit to Denmark, Queen Margrethe was in charge. The Danes’ script included tenue de ville (fancy daytime clothing) plus a hat. Still, as an avid hat hater, Letizia decided to forego a headgear….

That was not the first time. During the introductory visit to the Netherlands, Letizia’s hat was also missing.

Now you might say, who cares? But the funny thing is: she did choose a hat for the state visit to the United Kingdom. Would she have had more respect for Queen Elizabeth than for our Queen?

Time to move on to today’s fashion. Queen Letizia wore a red dress by Caroline Herrera, previously worn in September 2018.
