Monaco’s Marie Ducruet puts an end to nasty comments

“My body only concerns me,” she wrote on Instagram.

Red carpets, sunny holiday destinations, luxury hotels and the occasional royal holiday. We like to look around the snapshots of Marie Ducruet, the daughter-in-law of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco. Yet all that glitters is not gold in the microstate, because she also has to deal with nasty comments and online hatred. This is evident from a statement she recently posted on her Instagram page.

Known in one fell swoop

In 2019, the French Marie Chevallier married her prince charming, Louis Ducruet. Although, Prince Charming… Louis does not have a royal title and dangles somewhere at the bottom of the list of heirs to the throne of Monaco. But he can call Princess Stéphanie his mother, Princess Grace Kelly his grandmother and Prince Albert his uncle. So not the wrong in-laws for Marie!

The two certainly have a romantic story. “When I first saw Louis, I fell in love immediately. Since we are both very shy, it took a while. We often met eyes, the whole school knew that I wanted to be with him and he with me, but it took six months for someone to take the first step,” Marie previously told Point de Vue.

The spark flew and the two have been living in the mini-state ever since, where Louis works as chairman of the Monaco eSport Federation and football organization Barbagiuans Monaco. Marie is head of marketing at the Société des bains de mer, the company that manages, among other things, the world-famous Monte Carlo casino. Enough nice contacts for their little one, who, as sixteenth in the line of succession to the throne, does not have to count on a prominent place in the palace.

Center of attention

It sounds like a comfortable life that the once ordinary Frenchwoman of Vietnamese descent is currently living in Monaco. Yet she also has difficulty with certain aspects that come with living in the shadows.

On her Instagram Stories she calls on her followers to be nicer to each other. “Please be kind to each other or say nothing at all,” said Marie.

Marie is probably hinting at body shaming. “My body only concerns me,” she says. “My body has changed since my father died, and I have seen in recent years how easily people judge you or make nasty comments.”

She explains, “People don’t think about how this could affect someone…and how it doesn’t help anything or anyone.” Hopefully she has made it clear that that is indeed the case. Go, Marie!
