You are more aware of how much you spend on your phone
Your phone is an addictive device. You are sometimes not very aware of how long you actually spend on your phone per day. By checking your screen time once in a while, you will gain more insight into this. This allows you to think about whether you use your phone too much or not and whether you want to do something about it. It may be confrontational, but it is a very good first step!
You will gain insight into which apps you have used the most
Once you know how much time you spend on your phone, you can look at which apps you use the most. For example, are these social media apps such as Instagram and TikTok? Then it might be an idea to think about cutting back. Look at how much time you spend on average on these apps and ask yourself whether you can reduce it and if so, by how much. By tracking your screen time you can then see whether you are making progress.
And which apps you use the least
In addition to seeing which apps you use a lot, you can also see which apps you hardly use or don’t use at all. This isn’t necessarily useful if you want to reduce your screen time, but it can be useful in other ways. For example, you can use your screen time to determine whether you still need the apps or not. This way you save space on your phone.
You can set limits for yourself
Once you know you want to reduce your screen time, you can set limits for certain apps. You will then receive a notification when you have reached the limit so that you know to leave the app. Through the limits you give yourself a stick behind the door to actively reduce your screen time. Who knows, this might cause drastic differences!
You can work more specifically on spending less time on your phone and keep track of your progress
All these points together ensure that you can work on your (perhaps slightly excessive) screen time in a targeted manner. By tracking your screen time you are aware of how much you use your phone and you can work on reducing it. This way you can live more in the now, something that is good for everyone.
