The boy bob is just a bit shorter than the ‘normal’ bob.
Spring has started and a new season calls for a new cut. This spring, bobs will return and, according to trend watchers, we will see the so-called boy bob en masse.
Bobs
Every season calls for a new trendy hairstyle, and sometimes even several. We were previously introduced to the butterfly cut, the octopus hairstyle and the cowgirl haircut. Now we can add a new hair trend: the boy bob. This hairstyle is characterized by its lip length and volume at the roots. Bonus points if you wear it in a side parting. The secret to the perfect ‘boyish’ bob is not to let it look too polished: it looks best when you let your hair air dry and don’t use too many styling products.
Lip length
Younes Khassal, director at Taylor Taylor London (a chain of hair boutiques), says: “It’s an androgynous cut that still frames your features for a flattering look. It usually ends around lip length so it makes a statement but is still easy to wear for every day.”
Bobs are all the rage again in 2024. “In 2023, many people went for the big chop, with different versions trending on TikTok, on the catwalk and on red carpets. We also saw bobs on Naomi Watts and America Ferrera during the Golden Globes,” Khassal continues. “The boy bob is a way to give your bob a different look for 2024. It combines several aspects of the trendy cuts for 2023, such as the shortness of the French bob with the movement of the Italian bob, to create a short, chic, 90s-inspired style.”

Barber
Do you want to try out the boy bob? Khassal explains what is the best thing to tell your hairdresser. “Keep the hair length that suits your face shape. If you have an oval face, you can wear most lengths, but for a more square face, this cut is generally more flattering if the hair is just above or just below the jawline.
Make sure you discuss it with your hairdresser in advance so he or she can ensure the cut is tailored and flattering to your unique facial features.”
