A TV program with the Meiland family immediately promises hysteria. And perhaps the spin-off Chateau Meiland VIPS with celebrities is even more hysterical. Although it also depends on the guests they receive. For example, politician Caroline van der Plas and especially singer John de Bever provide a lot of fun in the first episode. He also reveals a story about his Expedition Robinson adventure that you will never forget. OMG!
First episode of Chateau Meiland VIPS
The Meiland family has been running their Code Rosé guesthouse for a while now and things are going well. Although they like to give their accommodation in Naaldwijk a little more flair. And what better way to do that than by inviting some famous people? Who knows, maybe the visits from celebrities will bring in even more guests. In any case, the family is preparing well for the visit. For example, at the beginning of the first episode of Chateau Meiland VIPS, Erica is busy cleaning. In the meantime, Maxime thinks about where she actually knows John de Bever, one of their first guests. “I only know John from the reality program,” she says. “And he played football in the past, but that was before my time. But for the rest: where do I actually know him from? He is gay, because he has a husband and his name is Kees.”
We get along well with John and Caroline
Fortunately, they have a whole day and morning with John and the second guest, Caroline van der Plas, to get to know them both well. Of course they get the two nicest rooms in the boarding house. John is the first to arrive and immediately comes in with a joke. “Here comes Caroline,” he says, when dog Bijoux runs towards him. In addition, he appears to be very fond of his own things. For example, he brought his own coffee maker. “We have very good coffee,” Erica responds. Although of course they just allow it. The guest is king, right?
Both John and Caroline immediately hit it off with the Meilandjes. Caroline also turns out to be distant relatives. Although it is mainly John who provides a lot of fun, especially through his sometimes striking stories. Of course it is time for some activities first. Martien and Montana go to play billiards with John in Leiden. Not too long, because John and Martien would still like to take a siesta. Meanwhile, Caroline goes pottery-making with Erica and Maxime. Something that doesn’t work as well with the politician, but at least she does it! After the activities, at some point it is time for dinner and that is also where the anecdotes are presented.
Pooping in Expedition Robinson
We should not forget that John once participated in Expedition Robinson. He would like to mention that again, probably because he has a number of nice stories. So he first prepared himself for a tropical season at home. “You have to learn to open coconuts, Kees said,” he says, which he has practiced. Only then they suddenly went to Croatia, because the Philippines was still closed due to corona. “Oh, that’s closer!” Martien immediately says enthusiastically, to which John responds: “But they had no coconuts there.” Aww…
So John ate very little during his Robinson adventure and has also lost a huge amount of weight. As a result, he also had enormous difficulty pooping. “After seven days I felt stool for the first time,” he says candidly. “I also drank too little water.” Well, then he finally went to the ‘toilet’. However, things are of course a little different at Expedition Robinson. “You have to poop in nature,” Martien interjects. “So I pull down my pants and think: now it’s going to happen,” he begins. “So I look: such a snake, such a fat snake. So prrrt… I shit all over my underwear.” Yep, he literally farts seven colors out of fear. Ha!

Chemistry with Martien
John’s hilarious story about his Expedition Robinson adventure turns out to be the start of a fun, long evening. Everyone is late, especially Martien, who lasts a long time with Caroline and especially John. The chemistry between John and Martien is great. They look very similar, daughter Maxime also notices. “You look like that,” she responds the next morning, when Martien walks into the restaurant. “Yes, I know. Made it way too late,” he says. “Oh, how awful! All the glasses are still there!” He immediately accuses his buddy John of everything: “That John the Beaver really shouldn’t come anymore.” Thanks to the new friendship with John, Martien has had a hangover for some time now. Oops! “Such a shame,” he says. “Yes, but you have no backbone when you’re with John,” Maxime responds. Well, that’s what you get when a Brabander comes to visit. *wink*
‘I love you’ messages
Martien is completely impressed by John. “I enjoyed it so much! So cozy and sincere,” he recalls. He secretly hopes that contact with John will continue. “When Kees turns around the corner, I’ll think about maybe having something to eat with him somewhere,” he says. Once John wakes up, we also talk together. John blames Martien for everything. “You really are a weirdo,” he says. “But very sweet.”
Suddenly Erica snaps into focus and wonders if nothing happened. “Don’t you like spoon-spooning?” she wonders, to which Martien responds: “No, we haven’t been spoon-feeding. We keep it neat.” John then reveals something that raises questions. “He did send me messages, your father,” he says. “I think that’s strange. ‘I love you’ and all that.” Wait, what? However, according to Martien it is not true. Well, we believe it.
