‘As a woman, who would you rather bump into alone in a forest: a man or a bear?’ You have probably already come across the question on your TikTok or Instagram timeline. In a vox pop asking women this question, the majority of the answers were that they would rather face the predator than an unknown man. This generated a lot of discussion. This is what you want to know about it.
This is what the question about the man or the bear does for us
How it came about
It all started with the TikTok account ScreenshotHQ. on which the maker posted a video in which he asked eight women who they would rather be saddled with in a forest: a bear or a man. Only one woman chose the male company, which caused many reactions. It has been viewed millions of times and the hashtag #manvsbear has been used more than 7,000 times for videos mainly featuring men and women discussing each other. Some men think it’s nonsense.
Reason for the choice
Many men do not understand why women choose the bear. It is a dangerous beast and will kill you in a short time with its sharp claws and teeth. This is precisely one of the reasons. If a bear comes at you, you will simply and probably die. With a man you don’t know what to expect and the reactions are different. With the bear, no one asks if the top you were wearing was “too sexy” or your skirt was too short, no one says you probably enjoyed it, and no one has any sympathy for the bear’s future. Sounds harsh, for both sides. For the man, because we now throw them in a pile as if all men are bad and for the women, because they realize that they would rather be left in the woods with a bear. That doesn’t come out of the blue.
Reality
Many women also know that there is a greater chance that they will meet a friendly man in the woods, that is not the point. Almost every woman has had a negative experience with a man, for example, where they were chased, chased or even groped. This obviously provokes reactions and distance when looking at the unknown man. These types of statements create more awareness. That doesn’t mean this is all good.
Polarization
It is important to create more awareness, but the question also causes polarization and experts advise against getting stuck in the battle between men and women. They say that pitting men and women against each other in this way only provides fodder for people like Andrew Tate. If you keep repeating that men are aggressive and do bad things to women, some of them will actually behave that way. We must of course prevent and remember this. Not all men are scary!
