Of course, we all already knew that the housing market is no longer a fun affair. Houses for sale are extremely expensive, but the prices of rental houses, apartments and even rooms are also skyrocketing. Unfortunately, living or moving on your own is no longer self-evident these days, as it is simply too expensive for many people. Do you have moving plans but need to stick to a budget? Then avoid these Dutch cities – because renting a house here is the most expensive.

Rent a house in the Netherlands
Nowhere in Europe will you find prizes like in this Dutch city: Amsterdam! It may not be very surprising, but the figures are interesting to look at. In our capital you pay a lot of money for a rental house, but it is also not bad in Rotterdam and The Hague, writes the AD about HousingAnywhere’s International Rent Index.
Research HousingAnywhere
HousingAnywhere is an international provider (hence Anywhere) of rental properties. This company looked at 28 European cities and the prices of more than 67,000 accommodations in the first three months of this year. Amsterdam emerged as the ‘winner’ and thus won the imaginary award for the most expensive city to rent a house.
Our capital asks an average of 2275 euros per month for an apartment, 1740 euros for a studio and 963 euros for a room. What money! Two other Dutch cities, Rotterdam (average 1,795 euros) and The Hague (average 1,790 euros), can also take a place in the top five. Rome is in second place, Paris in third.
Utrecht
Utrecht also has a high place in this HousingAnywhere list. This city is at number eight with an average of 1746 euros per month. This is before cities like Milan, Lisbon and Hamburg!
Live together
We may have to rent a house in a Dutch village (where the prices are guaranteed to be lower) to survive, because with these prices we eat dry bread with water every day… Of course you can also just find housemates and thus reduce the costs to share. Would you like to live together with your loved one and split the rent, but you don’t know if you are ready? We have listed a number of points for you that can tell you whether or not it is the right time to take this big step.
