“I knew what I was going to confront myself with,” Diana shared afterwards.
Some people may no longer remember it, but the confrontation between Diana and Camilla caused quite a stir, as the stories that later emerged showed.
Brave Diana
The princess later said it was one of her bravest moments during her marriage to Charles, before it ended in 1992 and she divorced him in 1996. The princess was 20 years old when she married the 32-year-old prince.
The embarrassing encounter with the then Camilla Parker Bowles caused Charles to run away like a headless chicken. The night in question took place on the 40th birthday of Camilla’s sister Annabel Elliot at the home of Lady Annabel Goldsmith in London.
Against all expectations
“I walk into the house and extend my hand to Camilla for the first time and thought: phew. We had that again,” Diana said in a recording from 1992. She reportedly had no desire to attend the event, but did so anyway.
Where are they then?
All the way there, Charles tried to convince her not to go. He kept asking why she came, trying to keep her away, Diana shared in the recordings with author Andrew Morton. Once Diana arrived, she noticed after a while that her husband was nowhere to be seen, nor did she see Camilla.
Hide and seek
The realization ‘bothered’ her and she went looking for the two. She later admitted: “I knew what I was going to confront myself with. They still tried to stop me.” She simply replied, “I’m just going to find my husband.”
Dirty game
She saw them, together with a man, and stood there as if they were close friends. Then she asked Camilla for a chat. The men fled upstairs and she told her, “Camilla, I just want to say that I know what is going on.” But she denied it. She thought Diana had everything and shouldn’t complain. “What else do you want?!” she had asked, to which Diana replied: “My husband.”
Unfortunately, we all know how tragically Diana’s story ended. In 2005, Charles married Camilla.
