Katja and Birgit Schuurman have been known for years as beautiful and talented showbiz sisters. But what did they actually look like in the past? We’ve delved into the archives!
Careers
Katja was born in 1975 as the eldest daughter of a Dutch father and Surinamese mother. Two years later her sister Birgit was born. Both girls obtained their pre-university education diploma and then slowly entered the showbiz world.
In her twenties, Katja played several small roles in various television series, and then made her film debut in a Dutch feature film The merman. She made her real breakthrough as Jessica Harmsen in Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden.
Birgit in turn opted for a singing career. It didn’t really get off the ground at first, but that changed in 2001. Then she scored a top 10 hit in the Dutch Top 40 with the song I know.
At one point, Katja started singing just like Birgit (we all remember Breathlessness), and Birgit followed her sister into the acting world. In 2024, both sisters are still making waves as actresses. The most recent film titles that Katja has added to her resume are Casa Coco, Oops, I’m growing! and Uncle Cor. Birgit recently played in Casanovas and Soof 2.
Beautiful sisters
In addition to their singing and acting careers, Katja and Birgit are of course also known for their undeniable beauty. Many a Dutch man has had a (Playboy or otherwise) poster of (one of the two) ladies above his bed in his younger years. And the ladies may now be 49 and 46; they are still beautiful to look at.
Carefree youth
Katja and Birgit are not only sisters but also best friends. And that is not something from recent years, no: they have had a special bond from an early age. Katja recently shared a special post about this on Instagram.

“My sister and I. At the beginning of our lives. And also on the road for a while,” the actress wrote with the intensely cute photo. “Especially very happy, curious, completely open and without judgment simply because we saw everything for what it was and we had no reason to put others down to save our ego.”
She continues: “We were. Picking flowers for each other’s hair. And with some detours and distractions we are still -or again- like that. And yes, stumbling here and there. To get up again the next day.” And how sweet they were!
New single
The actress did not share the message without reason. Birgit has just released a new song. And, as we have come to expect from Katja, she is of course more than happy to support her sister in this. She writes: “Listen to Birgit’s new single and follow her for much more beautiful music to come.”
Birgit’s new single is entitled Struikelen. Earlier this week she shared the nice news on her own Instagram: “And there she is, my first single Struikelen from my album of the same name, to be released later this year! More than 20 years ago I released my first music and I’m quite happy and grateful that I can still do that. Grateful for everyone who shares all their love and time with me to make what is inside me into music.”
