This time: the Oranjes in the spotlight!
Good news for royalty watchers! We can expect new royal viewing material soon. On January 31, the sequel to the series The Story of the Netherlands will be shown on NPO 1, and this time the Dutch royal family will be highlighted. From that date onwards we get a glimpse into the history and life of the Oranges through eight episodes.
Dutch history
The first season of The Story of the Netherlands started last year. A period from Dutch history was highlighted every week. A few months ago it was announced that the Oranjes will be central to the program in the new season. According to a statement from NTR, the episodes will be about “a royal family with heroes and black sheep who are sometimes vilified and other times held in high esteem. Narrator Daan Schuurmans guides the viewer through history at home and abroad.”

It is therefore up to actor Daan Schuurmans to tell the story of the House of Orange – from the moment the first Nassau came to power to the current state of the royal family, with Willem-Alexander on the throne. It is a task that Schuurmans took on with pleasure. “It was a treat to delve into the rich history of the Oranje Nassaus with almost the same enthusiastic team of people who made The Story of the Netherlands,” he says. He even personally visited Máx and Wim-Lex for the recordings. “We were very welcome. We even had lunch there. A royal lunch,” says Schuurmans.
The first season attracted 1.5 to 2 million viewers weekly. We are curious whether the Oranjes will boost the viewing figures!
