Could she have copied her fellow monarch?
Queen Camilla starts 2024 with a first: at the beginning of January she will follow in the footsteps of fellow monarch Willem-Alexander and take a seat behind the microphone for her own podcast The Queen’s Reading Room.
Personal touch
In 2023, it is no longer ‘cool’ for royals to always go mysteriously behind the palace walls. In fact, you no longer really belong if you don’t show your personal side. Queen Camilla must also have noticed this trend, because on Instagram you can read that she will soon be launching her own podcast.
The Queen’s Reading Room
“We are excited to announce The Queen’s Reading Room!” reads the post on Instagram. “Our brand new podcast is a place for book lovers – and those who would like to get into literature a little more – to be inspired by the books of global literary heroes. Authors from all over the world have shared their own literary treasures with us; reveal their favorite authors, most cherished books and earliest reading memories.”

It all sounds interesting of course, but what is the role of The Queen in this? Well, it looks like Her Majesty herself is filling the role of interviewer. Camilla apparently has some time left over the coming year, and she fills it in by questioning well-known writers about their favorites in the literary field. She follows in the footsteps of our own king, although we must say that it is a bit safer than Wim-Lex’s podcast. While Camilla (for once) puts others in the spotlight, in Through the Eyes of the King it was Wim-Lex himself who talked about his private life.
Anyway: if you fancy some literary banter by the queen and her guests, take a look at your favorite podcast app on January 8. From that date you can listen to The Queen’s Reading Room.
