Although woolen sweaters are wonderfully cozy and warm (and also very nice), the only and biggest disadvantage is that they are extremely itchy and stingy. After half an hour with a sweater like that on, you actually go completely crazy and you can’t wait to take it off. Still wearing a woolen sweater, but without itching? This can be done with these handy tips against stinging wool.
You do this against stinging wool
Do you also have some beautiful, but also extremely itchy wool sweaters and do you think it would be too much of a shame to get rid of them? With these tips, the wool in your sweater will no longer sting and you can say goodbye to red spots from scratching.
Conditioner
One of the most interesting and useful tips to combat itchy wool is to make a mixture of lukewarm water and conditioner. You massage your sweater in a bucket or sink and ensure that the mixture reaches all areas of the sweater. Then rinse it by hand with plenty of clean water at the same temperature. Please note: it is very important that the water is not very hot or very cold. To dry the sweater, hang it on the clothesline or lay it down (this way it won’t lose its shape). The dryer is a bad idea for a wool sweater and can even make it itchy. Another ingredient that you add to the conditioner-water mixture is natural vinegar. This will make your sweater even softer and you can say goodbye to your itchy sweater.
In the freezer
Another tip, which is a bit stranger, is to dampen your sweater and then place it in a plastic bag in the freezer. Yes really. It could be that the cold causes the fibers to contract and when you wear it (not just out of the freezer, don’t be afraid) it itches a lot less. Please call us to see if it actually works!
Pay attention while purchasing
Sometimes you see such beautiful (wool) sweaters in stores or online that you would like to buy them all. Yet you often notice at home that a sweater is not as comfortable as you had hoped and that is of course a shame. Another tip to ‘avoid’ buying itchy sweaters is to simply not buy them online and try them on first. You will then notice quickly enough whether it is stinging wool or not. In addition – if you are close to desperation – you can always wear an undershirt so that you do not have the wool directly on your skin.
