Finally, a period full of uncertainty is coming to an end.
A few years ago it was quite a shock for Bo Wilkes from Echte Gooische Moeders. She was then told that abnormalities had been found in her smears, which pointed to HPV. After a long period of fear and uncertainty, she was able to share wonderful news with her followers today.
HPV-free
“A very nice message for me in the early morning!”, the Gooise mother begins her message on Instagram. “After several abnormal smear tests, I underwent two loop excisions,” she explains in her Instagram Stories. “This is a method in which the deformed cells around the cervix and neck are removed, after which healthy cells will hopefully develop again. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen to me.”
For this reason, Bo’s gynecologist decided to perform a conization. “I was happy because this meant we were going to have one more attempt before removing my uterus. A conization is a minor procedure under general anesthesia in which a cone-shaped piece of the uterus is removed. This means the uterus remains intact.”

Patience
Before a new smear could be made, Bo had to be patient. 7 months after the conization the time had finally come. And: there was good news right away! “Finally got some good news today!”, said Bo. “I am extremely happy and grateful, as I had already secretly taken the bad news and major surgery into account. In addition, I am extremely grateful that I was able to receive a warning, while there are also people who discover at a more advanced stage that the PAP score is wrong.”

Finally, Bo would like to urge her followers to have themselves checked once in a while. “It makes me sad that many people still ignore the population screening and do not get checked for HPV,” she writes. “80 to 90% of all people carry the HPV virus: the cause of cervical cancer. In 3%, the HPV virus can lead to a pre-cancerous condition. Get checked ✨🙏🏼”
