After a difficult period, things now finally seem to be going well for Her Serene Highness.
The champagne is flowing freely in Monaco today. Charlene is blowing out 46 candles today, and that should of course be celebrated. Especially because, after a number of difficult years, the princess finally seems to be doing well.
Marital problems
Princess Charlene did not appear in public for more than a year due to her long and, above all, mysterious illness. Due to her long absence, there were plenty of rumors about marital problems between her and husband Prince Albert. Her return could not completely calm emotions, and a French tabloid headlined at the time that a divorce between the two would be inevitable.
This summer the rumor mill started up again. According to the French magazine Voici, the couple would only maintain their marriage in the public eye, while Charlene would live alone in Switzerland.
Lies
These rumors were quickly put to rest by Albert, who defended their marriage in the Italian media. “Charlene is always by my side. I don’t understand all the rumors, they hurt me. The fact that she (Charlene, ed.) lives in Switzerland and makes appointments to see us are lies.” In turn, Charlene publicly thanked her husband, even calling him her protector. “We talked about these malicious articles together, and he did everything he could to protect me and the children.”
Side by side
After the many rumors about their marriage (or rather: the lack thereof) that were thrown into the world, Albert and Charlene were suddenly spotted together remarkably often. Sometimes stiffly next to each other, as we were used to, but sometimes also intensely cuddling. It resulted in an extremely rare image and many positive reactions. And although this was of course a very remarkable consequence of the persistent rumors, the couple actually seemed genuinely happy.
Charlene seems to be doing much better since then. She goes on trips with the twins, shines here and there at an event, and cuddles with all kinds of royal family members. And perhaps most importantly: she increasingly treats us to her once so rare smile. Congratulations to Her Serene Highness, and may we see those corners of our mouths lift even more often this year!
