The frost is still in the rags for a while.
It should have been such a wonderful holiday for the Norwegian monarch. Unfortunately, King Harald encountered all kinds of health problems while traveling in Malaysia, and was therefore admitted to a local hospital. In the meantime, the Norwegian court is keeping us well informed with regular updates on its status, but not all of those updates are equally positive.
Disease
At the end of February, the Norske Kongehus shared bad news about King Harald: during his holiday in beautiful Malaysia, the monarch unexpectedly had to be admitted to hospital due to an infection. “The king is receiving good guidance from both Malaysian and Norwegian medical staff,” the statement said.
A few days later, palace sources said the monarch’s personal physician was present at Langkawi hospital, where the strong man was reportedly recovering from his infection. Son Haakon also shared that his father indeed seemed to be doing better in front of the press.
Pacemaker
This weekend, the Norwegian court suddenly announced that King Harald has been fitted with a temporary pacemaker at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkwawi. The official report stated last Saturday: “The pacemaker was implanted due to a low heart rate. This decision was made earlier today, and the procedure went well. His Majesty is doing well under the circumstances, but still needs rest.”
According to the king’s personal doctor, Bjørn Bendz, the pacemaker should make the journey home a lot safer for Harald.
Home sweet home
Yesterday, two more updates appeared from the Kongehus: first it was announced that Harald (accompanied by his Sonja) was on his way to Langkawi airport, and in the evening there was confirmation that Harald had arrived back in Norway safely.
However, the frost cannot go home immediately here. He must remain in the Rikshospitalet for treatment in the coming days. The court has not shared what the plans are in terms of interventions (after all, the pacemaker is a temporary one). It is clear that Harald will take some rest for the next two weeks. After his stay in hospital, the 87-year-old monarch can continue his recovery at home.
In the meantime, Crown Prince Haakon does the honors as regent.
Hopefully the frost will be back on its feet soon!
