This morning, Queen Máxima opened the new outpatient clinic for patients with severe endometriosis at the Reinier de Graaf hospital.
Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue that resembles the tissue inside the uterus is also found outside the uterus. Due to a lack of knowledge, it takes an average of 7.4 years in the Netherlands before the diagnosis of endometriosis is made.
Last year, the Dutch Endometriosis Clinic (NEK) helped two thousand patients with endometriosis with advice and operated on two hundred patients. In order to meet the increasing demand for specialized endometriosis care, the new outpatient clinic has now been realized. At this new location, top clinical and innovative endometriosis care is concentrated in one place around the patient, which fits in with the holistic approach of the NEK. Healthcare professionals of the NEK are also committed to increasing awareness of and scientific research into the treatment of endometriosis. With an early diagnosis, women can receive the right treatment and the consequences for their lives are less drastic.
