The musician, who was allowed to play director for the first time for the clip, reached deep into the box of Christian symbolism. Among other things, the “Old Town Road” interpreter is dressed as Jesus and is nailed to a cross – that doesn’t go down well with the fans. Now he’s taking a stand online!
He was aware that not everyone would like the creative concept of his new album. “But I didn’t mean to mock,” he explains in a long video on X, formerly Twitter. He goes on to say that his depiction of Jesus was intended as a metaphor for his revitalized career. “I’m not an evil demon trying to destroy other people’s values. That’s not me,” emphasizes the rapper.
A short video that he subsequently posted on TikTok caused further controversy. In the clip, he celebrates communion dressed as Jesus, eating bread and drinking wine from a cup. The American now reveals that he wanted to “lighten the mood”.
