Let me introduce myself: this is Princess Danica of Serbia

Time to take a closer look at the life of this mysterious royal.

Although Serbia has not been a monarchy for some time, there are still quite a few noble figures in the Balkan country. This also applies to Danica, who underwent a transformation from an ‘ordinary’ bourgeois girl to a Serbian princess. We introduce this mysterious royal to you.

Daughter of an artist

Danica was born in 1986 as the daughter of Milan Cile Marinković and Beba Marinković. She was born in Belgrade, but grew up in Paris from 1992 onwards. The move from the Balkans to the city of love has everything to do with her father’s profession. He is an artist, and with his work he inspires Danica to enter the art world.

Prince Charming

Danica studies graphic design in Paris and continues her studies in London. Here she starts her career as an artist under the name Dana Maar, and…she meets her prince on a white horse: Filip Karađorđević. Filip is the second son of Alexander Karađorđević, who, despite no longer having a crown to inherit, is the Crown Prince of Serbia.

Wedding

When Prince Filip sets his sights on Danica, things happen quickly: in no time she grows from an ‘ordinary’ middle-class girl into a Serbian princess-to-be. In October 2017, she pledged her eternal loyalty to Prince Philip during a royal wedding in Belgrade. She gets married in an unglamorous dress, but that shouldn’t spoil the royal fun: from that moment on we have a beautiful royal couple.

Queen Sofía of Spain and Princess Victoria of Sweden also know that it was a beautiful wedding: they were the only well-known royals invited to the spectacle.

Royal family

Less than a year after their marriage, Filip and Danica’s first child, Prince Stefan, is born. Sister Maria was added last November.

The fact that the family members are not considered official royals offers us a lot of advantages. For example, both Filip and Danica regularly share the nicest royal, but also not so royal snapshots on their Instagram profiles. This way we become a little involved in their semi-royal life!
