Leslie Keijzer and her great love Govinda ‘Goof’ den Hertog have a love story that seems straight out of a fairy tale! In an interview with Open Kaart, Leslie tells how she first met Goof during Real Girls In The Jungle. “It was love at first sight.” Yet there is a twist in the story. “It’s just that we were both in other relationships at the time,” Leslie reveals.
Real Girls In The Jungle provides spark
“I was there for a month and we were both in a relationship. (…) You couldn’t do anything in between, because you had no soap and no razor. You just smelled, you couldn’t say anything.” After a month of adventures and challenges in the jungle, Leslie and Goof decided on the last night to admit their feelings. “I said the last night, ‘Well, you’re sleeping with me today, aren’t you?’ Because we slept in the hotel at the time. Fortunately, he said yes, and so our adventure together began.”
Leap into the deep end
Back in the Netherlands after the Real Girls in the Jungle adventure, the love between them was so strong that Leslie moved to Amsterdam within a week to be with Goof. “It was a real leap of faith, but I knew he was the one,” Leslie laughs. Their love was so intense that they started a new life together, even though their exes did not know why they ended the relationship after returning from the jungle. “No, no one knew what it was. Because it was not done at that time if you went with someone from television. That was really not possible. (…) Going with a candidate was not allowed. So I didn’t tell my ex, no.”
Ex-boyfriend informed about Real Girls in the Jungle adventure
Her ex-boyfriend now knows. “Because he has read the book. He didn’t know it before. (…) He read it last month.” In it she tells in scents and colors about her former adultery. “I spoke to him on the phone and he said: ‘Nice, that book. You know, the one I’m in. In Real Girls in the Jungle.’ Then I said: Yes, yes, yes.’ (…) So then he realized it.”
All’s well that ends well
Now Leslie and Goof are not only engaged, but also proud parents of two adorable sons, Moises and Manuel. Their story proves that true love conquers all and that adventures always lead to beautiful memories.
