We won’t be seeing the outfit above on Máxima and associates anytime soon, but what about the look below? Has a queen ever looked goofier than Margrethe here?
She also proves that Margrethe just goes her own way with this colorful raincoat, made from an oilcloth.
And no, this one isn’t just for holidays. She also wore the raincoat at the celebration of Queen Sonja’s 70th birthday (2007) in Norway.

Margrethe designs costumes for the theater and when she comes across a beautiful piece of fabric, she also starts working on her own wardrobe. For years she formed a fashion duo with cutter Jørgen Bender. She designed this orange dress herself and can also be worn with three (!) other bodices.
In recent decades, Margrethe has regularly received a beautiful piece of fabric as a gift from her husband and children, and she also once received this green dress, worn on the wedding day of Crown Princess Victoria (2010). In the book Dronningens Kjoler she says the following about it: “I attend large, special events, so I am lucky enough to be able to wear large dresses. My style has also become a little more like who I am. The older, the more shameless. On the Swedish Crown Princess’s big day, I was the only one wearing green. I got that dress for my birthday. When I knew the wedding was coming up, I immediately knew I would wear it.”

Fur, or in the eyes of many, too fur: a warm winter coat.
Her silhouette is grand and dramatic in the evenings, while during the day the Danish queen often wears plain, knee-length cloaks with a matching hat.
Can that hat be a tad unconventional or two? Of course!
All boundaries are loosened on stage. How wonderful that as a queen you can be yourself.
At the celebration of Prince Henrik’s 75th birthday, Queen Margrethe wore this blue dress with a separate shoulder.
When she is on holiday, whether at Graasten Castle or in Cahors, Margrethe regularly wears a denim skirt or jeans.
During the New Year’s reception on January 1, 2009, Margrethe wore a gold-colored dress with red accents. She seems to have walked straight out of a fairy tale, doesn’t she?
In May 2007, Queen Margrethe wore a floral dress during the performance on the occasion of Sweden’s state visit to Denmark.
And Margrethe’s largest dress, which contains no less than 60 (!) meters of tulle, should of course not be missing from this blog. She designed it herself, of course.
