An important historical moment? Yes, that’s what we can call the ceremony that took place yesterday in Luxembourg. Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume was appointed lieutenant representative of Grand Duke Henri during an official ceremony yesterday. In Luxembourg this means something like: an imminent change of throne.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie accompanied their spouses to this important event. Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume was sworn in as the Grand Duke’s lieutenant representative in the Chamber of Deputies. Such a ceremony took place on May 4, 1961 for the then Hereditary Grand Duke Jean and on March 4, 1998 for the then Hereditary Grand Duke Henri.
Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume took the following oath:
“ I swear that I will uphold the Constitution and the laws and faithfully discharge my constitutional duties. ”
During the ceremony, Prince Guillaume gave his very first speech in this new role.
“ I am aware that today also marks a new phase in my personal life, for my wife and our children. We tackle it together and with confidence. I am delighted to now stand next to the Grand Duke, as Lieutenant Representative, in the service of the country and its people and to work in the best interests of Luxembourg. ”
After the official event, Guillaume walked past the audience waiting outside. Finally, a reception was held at the end of the day.
