Famke Louise, who is usually very much herself, had a hard time after the birth of her child. In an honest conversation with &C, 25-year-old Famke shares how she thought she suddenly had to become mega serious as a mother. This serious role actually made her ‘dead unhappy’…
Expectations of motherhood
Famke is normally a chick who acts crazy and pushes boundaries, but when she got pregnant, she suddenly thought she had to be different. She says: “I thought I had to go in a serious direction, you know. I withdrew and even thought I could make better pop music instead of hip hop. Really stupid, in retrospect.”
Famke Louise lost herself
Now Famke Louise understands that this choice only held her back. “I really started to doubt myself, like ‘can I still do this now that I’m a mother?’ I started living according to what others thought of me as a mother. In the end I just completely lost myself, really shitty.” But luckily Famke found her passion again! “I started doing what I feel like doing again. It was really hard to get back to myself, but I’m glad I’m doing my own thing again.”
Eighteen plus content
Famke now earns her money by selling online content for over-18s and says she gets a lot of hate for it. But she just doesn’t care. “I think that criticism is bullshit. Why shouldn’t you be proud of your body as a woman and decide for yourself what to do with it? It’s strange that you get status by being on the cover of Playboy, but if you want to do something with it yourself, it’s suddenly not done.”
Wise lesson for her son
She also knows exactly what she is going to tell her son if he is ever confronted with her work. “I want to explain to him why I made these choices and show him that you don’t have to be ashamed of your body. I don’t care much about what others think and want to tell him that he shouldn’t either.” Famke concludes with the message that she feels better about herself these days. She shows that you should always stay true to yourself, and that includes being a mother. You go, girl!
