Dead butt syndrome is a problem that many people with an office job have to deal with. It has to do with the fact that you sit in a chair all day. Your gluteal muscles are not used. As a result, they sometimes forget what their job is. If you suffer from dead butt syndrome, your buttocks can hurt, but they can also be numb. A sign of dead butt syndrome is also a stiff or tight feeling in your gluteal muscles when you try to stand up. Difficulty tensing your gluteal muscles can also be a signal. You can also feel it in other places than just your buttocks. If you suffer from pain in your back and have bad posture, this can also have to do with your buttocks. Your gluteal muscles are also partly responsible for your posture. Finally, you can also notice it during sports. When you do exercises in which your gluteal muscles play a major role, such as squats, you will notice that this is a lot more difficult when you have it.

The causes

Dead butt syndrome is mainly caused by sitting too much. And by sitting too much, we mean sitting more than standing. For example, you might be sitting at your desk all day at work, sitting again on your commute home, and then sitting all the time at home. And if you skip glute exercises while exercising, it often gets worse. To keep your muscles healthy, you have to use them. And if you don’t use certain muscles, they get smaller… Having bad posture can also play a role. This puts extra pressure on your hips and pelvis. This can cause muscle imbalances and reduced activation of your glutes.
