Candidate Carla attracts a lot of attention in Heel Holland Bakt, but not necessarily because of her good bakes. She is also a striking appearance in the tent, which creates a nice atmosphere. Alright: sometimes viewers are a bit annoyed by the busy Carla, but secretly she is also very loved. Unfortunately, the baking in the fourth episode does not work out well. Will peace return to the tent?
Beware: this article contains spoilers!
Carla in Heel Holland Bakt
Due to her Italian temperament and Hague accent, Carla is a striking appearance in Heel Holland Bakt. In any case, the 58-year-old endodontics assistant attracts enormous attention in the popular TV program. Although she is not necessarily the best candidate in the tent. She already learned baking in Italy, where she was born. She learned to bake from her mother and grandmother. In her spare time she likes to make crostata (known for the flan), whipped cream truffles and bread. The latter turns out to be a useful technique for the fourth episode of Heel Holland Bakt, because the theme is America and yep: American bagels are also featured.
Unfortunately, Carla has not had a good experience with the United States. She’s been there once, but: “Never again.” She tells presenter André van Duin in detail – actually she has no time for small talk – what exactly happened. So she was pregnant with her eldest child and actually felt a bit uncomfortable. Her husband then said reassuringly: “Oh man, don’t worry. There are all kinds of fat people in America.” André also agrees. Only he didn’t know yet that she had been to Miami. “They were all like that there,” she responds, showing with her fingers how slim the people are there. “And then I walk there with my big belly… Terrible.”

In round 5, Carla still doesn’t know whether the oven is on.
So I can also participate next year. #hhb #wholehollandbakt pic.twitter.com/otpCbR4tkn

“What a disgrace”
The bad experience with America seems to be a bad omen for the episode of Heel Holland Bakt. Maybe that’s why Carla struggles so much during the assignments. For example, they make a cheesecake in the first assignment. Carla opts for a cheesecake with quattro stagioni filling. Huh? So that is a cake with four types of seasonal fruits. However, her idea turns out to be a bit too ambitious. She also struggles with the oven, which she still doesn’t know well. When the time is almost up, Carla shouts anxiously, “No, no!” Only in vain of course, because time is really up. “What a disgrace,” she responds, disappointed. Her cake is very messy and clearly unfinished. Unfortunately, the cheesecake does not taste good either, according to jury members Robèrt van Beckhoven and Janny van der Heijden. It tastes more like scrambled eggs. Oops…
After the first assignment, the technical assignment also does not work. All while making bagels. That’s something with bread, so you would think: a specialty of Carla. However, the bagel is a little more difficult. For example, the hole turns out to be too big and some bagels are a bit too salty. Nevertheless, Carla does not score the worst. The last place is reserved for audience favorite Pien. Phew!
No baking for now
That’s why Carla goes for it in good spirits in the last round. “We’re just going to rock. It’s going to be fine,” she guarantees. For the spectacle, the candidates make a cartoon cake. Carla makes a carrot cake with a pair of rabbit ears on top. The idea is that the rabbit is in its hole, says Carla. She tries to get through the round stress-free, but that is not easy. Afterwards she becomes insecure because of the beautiful cakes around her. “Mine belongs at the flea market,” she says. Unfortunately, her spectacle is also not finished, as before with the cheesecake. Fortunately, the taste is quite good, except for the buttercream.
Yet she does not make it to the next episode with the reasonable spectacle. Although Carla herself doesn’t seem too sad about it. She had also expected that she would have to go home. André doesn’t even mention Carla’s name yet, but she already responds: “Wow, I already knew that!” Of course she will miss Heel Holland Bakt, but she now enjoys baking. “I’m not going to bake anymore for a while,” she says. “Now that’s coming out of those ears.”
Viewers are disappointed about departure
Although viewers are regularly annoyed by Carla, they also secretly miss the dropout. “I thought Carla was good for the atmosphere,” someone responded on social media channel X, while another said: “A mouth like a razor, but a heart of gold.” Aww!
Carla is really my favorite, just because of her rustic way of working and her lovely Hague accent🫶🏼 #wholehollandbakt

Believe that Carla can go home. Still, I think Rotterdam’s uninhibitedness is wonderful. A bit of a complete loss, but always well-intentioned. A beak is like a razor but a heart is made of gold. Great person. #wholehollandbakt

Very happy with Rudo! Carla thought it was good for the atmosphere (also on Twitter 🤣) so that’s a shame #hhb

Oh, it’s a shame Carla is out, but that’s the way it is. I’m going to miss her, she’s a lovely girl. ❤️ #HHB
