If they do go, unfortunately it won’t provide us with any glamorous piste snaps…
For years, the Orange squad traditionally met in February in Lech, Austria. For a good dose of snow fun, of course, but also for the annual photo opportunity, which we as royalty watchers always look forward to. However, this has not happened since 2020. Will the Dutch actually go to Lech this year?
End of a tradition
Until 2020, the ski holiday to Lech was a regular occurrence for the Oranjes. In previous years this was always accompanied by a photo session, which time and again produced the nicest and most spontaneous snapshots. Sadly, though, it seems we’ll have to kiss this beloved tradition goodbye. The royal family has previously indicated that they only want to be photographed with the entire family. And with three daughters who are everywhere and nowhere in the world, that of course becomes difficult. We have not received any more glamorous piste snaps since 2020.
Fledgling daughters
Ariane is of course currently in Italy, and we’re guessing that Alexia won’t spend her entire gap year nestled on the couch between Máx and Wim-Lex. A photo session will probably not be possible this year, and the question is whether it will ever happen again. Prince Constantijn and his family often go skiing at a different time these days, and it remains to be seen whether a week of winter sports is still possible for Princess Beatrix.
Empty agenda
However, the fact that we are no longer allowed to receive pleasant winter sports snaps from the Oranjes does not necessarily mean that they will no longer lower their standards. The public agendas of the royal family are still almost completely empty for this week and part of next week. It could therefore be that some Oranges are currently on the track after all, although the Government Information Service is keeping tight-lipped about this. Anyway, we naturally give the royals their annual dose of snow fun, even if we are not allowed to enjoy it…
