This is the route that the Oranjes will walk on King’s Day 2024

It promises to be a fun day in Emmen!

An official day off, cozy flea markets and delicious orange toppings: you can hardly dislike King’s Day. Although we still have to look forward to the day that the king celebrates his birthday, more is already known about how the House of Representatives will spend King’s Day.

Emmen

April 27 may seem far away, but it will be here before you know it. And on the nicest day off of the year you naturally want to plan something fun. One person goes to a festival, another goes to the flea market and another enjoys the fun from the couch in front of the TV.

But, if you live in the northeast of the country (or feel like traveling a bit), you can add another activity to this list. Last year, the residents of Rotterdam were the lucky ones to receive the royal family on King’s Day, but this year this honor goes to Emmen in Drenthe.

Route de Oranjes

If you plan to spot the royal family on King’s Day 2024, it is of course useful to know where exactly the Royal Family will visit. Good news: the organization has shared a clear map showing the route.

The route of the House of Orange runs straight through the center of Emmen, so the royal family passes through both the old and the new parts. They start their journey on the Noorderplein and via the Marktplein Willem-Alexander and his family then walk towards the old zoo, the Rensenpark. From there the group walks past the Grote Kerk and Wildlands – in other words: the new zoo – to the Raadhuisplein. The route ends at the Atlas theater.

Enthusiastic

Mayor Eric van Oosterhout is enthusiastic about the route. “It offers plenty of opportunities to showcase ourselves as a municipality and region to the King and the Royal family. De Koning walks through both the old and the new part of the center. And along the way there is plenty of room for spectators to follow the King’s visit up close.”

Attendees

It is not yet known in which formation the Oranjes will appear. Last year, for example, Princess Alexia was missing in Rotterdam, who was too busy studying for her exams in Wales. Since Ariane has flown out to Italy for school, it is possible that the youngest A’tje will miss Emmen. In any case, we will wait in anticipation!
