Can’t get around to that stack of books?

Is the Tower of Pisa full of books in your house because you just can’t seem to get around to reading them? No more excuses. This will work with these 10 tips from Nextory.

1. No time is no longer an excuse. Make sure you have that book within reach and read or listen while waiting, on your walk, during your workout or in the supermarket. The advantage of an app with audio and eBooks is that you can ‘read’ them wherever and whenever you want.

2. Make reading part of your daily routine and schedule realistic reading time. Even if it’s just a few pages a day. And read one book at a time, because multitasking is fun, but not always useful while reading. This prevents you from being completely immersed and confused by different storylines.

5. Combine an audiobook with other activities. During a walk, in the car or in public transport. These are excellent moments to grab that audio book from the proverbial shelf. Audiobooks are often listened to while performing household chores, such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, washing dishes, ironing or vacuuming.

6. Choose your favorite place. At home on the couch, in bed, in the park or on the beach. Go to the place where you prefer to dream away in a book.

7. Create the right setting. Turn off external stimuli such as radio and TV and become completely absorbed in your book. It’s good for your mind, your senses, and your mental health to “drown” in the story.

8. Ask friends for recommendations. Do you no longer see the forest for the trees, so you just don’t read anything? Take a look at what your friends liked, and who knows, you might read books that you wouldn’t have picked up yourself.

9. Agree with a friend to read the same book. And then plan a coffee date to discuss the book. Even a small ‘book club’ provides a stick behind the door.

10. Have you started a book, but you don’t like it as much as expected? Don’t force yourself to read this. Stop reading and start again with another book that appeals to you.
