The Princess of Wales has shoes in size 38, size 38.5 and size 39 in her closet.
It is no surprise to anyone that the Princess of Wales has an impressive number of shoes. In fact, it seems that Kate not only buys the same slipper in different colors, but also occasionally goes for the same pair, albeit in two different sizes. A royal case of unnecessary luxury, or is there more to it?
Two shoe sizes
In Princess Kate’s enviable shoe closet you will not only find pumps in all colors, but also in all sizes. Well, in three different shoe sizes. Royalty watchers keep an eye on everything, and the soles of Kate’s shoes are no exception. This is how we found out that Princess Catherine wears size 38, size 38.5 and size 39.
Of course, the size may differ per brand, so that’s not surprising. And when we set our sights on a shoe that only comes in a size that is too small, we also take for granted that we have to squeeze our feet into it like Cinderella’s stepsisters. But Kate also has another good reason for it.
Seasonal shoes
According to Hello! Kate probably wears a larger shoe size in the summer months because her feet have room when they swell due to the heat (princesses cannot escape such discomforts either). “Celebrities often wear a size larger on the red carpet, mainly to prevent blisters,” explains Rachel Story, fashion editor at Hello! Magazine out. “And of course it’s about how the shoes feel when you put them on and walk around in them, not about what size you normally wear.”

Walking in shoes that are too big
It sounds like a nice idea, buying your shoes in a size larger for the summer months, but how do we go about that without a royal budget? The celebrity hack seems to be to buy your shoes at least one size larger so you can wear them in the summer. In the colder months you can fill the front of the pump with cotton wool to make it a bit ‘smaller’ again. “You can also remove it quickly if you need a little more space,” Rachel tips.
