Christmas is now a few days behind us. Most of us don’t take down the Christmas tree immediately after Christmas. For example, in many households this remains in place until after New Year’s Eve. But how long can you really leave a Christmas tree up? We’ll find out.
When do you take down the Christmas tree?
When you should take down the Christmas tree depends on several things. First, you can look at the type of tree you have in the living room. If it is a real tree, such as a Nordmann, you can leave it for two to three weeks. Real trees will eventually droop and fall if you leave them for too long. As soon as you start to notice that your tree is looking a bit sad after Christmas, it is time to say goodbye to your tree. The longer you leave it, the more annoying it becomes to clean up! So if you are someone who can’t wait to take down the decorations so you can give your house a thorough cleaning, then this is your ideal excuse. It is of course a bit of a shame for people who prefer to leave the tree standing as long as possible. Tip for next year: go for an artificial tree!
And what if I have an artificial tree?
Okay, but if you have an artificial tree you can just leave it as long as you want, right? Yes, technically yes. If you want to leave your tree up all year round, we will not judge you. But if you want to know a time when you need to have the tree removed, as a kind of deadline, we have it for you! The day you should remove the tree is January 6. On this day it is Three Kings Day. The Christmas tree is not really part of the Christian Christmas celebration, yet it is said that keeping your Christmas tree during Three Kings Day brings bad luck. For this reason, we think this is a good deadline for permanently removing your Christmas decorations. Taylor Swift once sang, “We can leave the Christmas lights up ’till January.” Yes, until January 6! This day is therefore a good time to plan a thorough tidying and cleaning day. Two birds with one stone!
