We already know that vaping is not good for you. The fact that a vape can also explode is (shocking) news for some. It happened to Leeanne: her vape exploded in her jacket pocket and caught fire. Omg! If that’s not enough reason to stay away from vapes…
Exploded vape
A vape that explodes, it doesn’t sound like a party. It happened to Leeanne Anderson last month. In the morning of the day it happened, she had just returned from the hospital. She had surgery on her wrist. After her hospital visit, she drove to her sister’s to pick up her dog. “I sat down and my sister was about to give me a cup of coffee when all hell broke loose,” she says.

Out of nowhere they heard a loud bang. Leeanne was still a bit hazy from her operation, so she didn’t immediately notice what was happening. “Then my coat suddenly caught fire,” she says. Her brother-in-law threw something her way to extinguish it and her sister tried to take off the coat. One side was already completely melted. “We took off my clothes and my sister walked me to the bathroom as quickly as possible to give me a bath.” The flames rose higher and higher: from her knees to her shoulders – the entire length of her coat – was on fire.
Vape as the culprit
Leeanne quickly realized that her rechargeable vape was the culprit. All the flames caused her skin on her leg to be completely damaged and she had burn marks on her stomach and left hand. When Leeanne saw her vape, there was nothing left. Leeanne could therefore go straight back to the hospital. She says she is lucky to be alive. It could have been that no one was with her or that the vape had exploded in her mouth. Or did this happen in her sleep. She prefers not to think about those disaster scenarios.
Leeanne is using this disastrous event to discourage people from vaping or keeping them in your pocket. She admits she was unaware of the dangers. “It’s quite scary, especially for the younger users.
