The brotherly bond between Prince William and Mike Tindall

“It’s two peas in a pod,” said a Buckingham Palace insider.

Prince William and Mike Tindall are known to have a close friendship, with the duo often seen together at events such as Royal Ascot. The children now also enjoy being in each other’s presence and they even have a WhatsApp group with each other, as Mike recently revealed when William and Kate were guests in Mike’s rugby podcast.

Camaraderie

What makes the two have such a brotherly bond with each other? Speaking to the Telegraph, royal author Ingrid Seward explained that the two friends’ bond is partly due to Mike’s down-to-earth nature. “Mike Tindall has that kind of camaraderie among athletes that particularly appeals to William, who was once a tomboy himself,” she said. “Mike becomes funnier under the influence of alcohol and can then color outside the lines. William can no longer do this because he is too aware of his responsibilities. But he can be a nice part of that through Mike.”

Dickie Arbiter, a former Buckingham Palace spokesperson, agreed, telling the Telegraph in a separate interview: “They are two peas in the same pod, they just have different upbringings.”

Nickname revealed

But when you, as a member of the Windsor family by marriage, open your mouth in interviews, you better watch what you say. Before you know it, all kinds of secrets that the royals would have preferred to keep behind palace doors will spill out. Mike Tindall can relate.

For example, he was once a guest with his wife Zara in the podcast Seven: Rob Burrow. In this podcast, various top athletes are put to the test with seven questions. This time it was the turn of Mike, a former rugby star, and Zara, an Olympic rider. Of course, that immediately boded well!

But things really get interesting when Mike accidentally reveals his particularly daring nickname for Prince William. For example, the Crown Prince would be known as ‘One-Pint Willy’, as he is not a big drinker. Mike seems to be shocked by his own revelation, and immediately follows up with a heartfelt “Sorry, Sir”. Zara also reacts in disbelief, stating: “Now you’ve really gotten yourself into trouble!” Oops!
