King Charles receives a special question: does your highness also watch Love Island?

Golden tip: don’t ask the monarch if he watches reality TV.

This week, another traditional garden party was planned for the British royals, where the crème la crème of the British cultural sector had the opportunity to chat with the royal couple. The glamorous presenter Maya Jama was also present here, who in turn had a somewhat awkward conversation with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Garden party

It is a regular occurrence every year: as soon as the sun shines in the normally gray Great Britain, the royal family organizes plenty of garden parties. Of course, not just anyone is allowed to come here – no, no, you really have to have something to offer to be able to count on an invitation.

The garden party that was planned this week was aimed at putting prominent figures from the cultural and creative sector in the spotlight. Strictly presenter Tess Daly, models Kate Moss and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, actor Lenny Henry and filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott were among those present.

But it was mainly presenter and radio DJ Maya Jama who attracted attention during the garden party with a somewhat awkward conversation with the monarch.

Love Island

As fans of reality TV will undoubtedly know, Love Island is presented in the Netherlands by Holly Mae Brood and Victor Verhulst. In the British version of the program it is Maya Jama who takes on this role. Now, in our opinion, presenting a reality show may not be the most logical reason for a royal invitation, but whatever. We are therefore not part of the British court.

During the garden party, the presenter was approached by King Charles, and a very awkward conversation followed. For example, Maya tells the king: “I present Love Island, but I don’t know if you are watching it. It’s like a reality dating show. That’s what I do.”

Charles responds to this by shrugging his shoulders and referring to another reality show about the ins and outs of the staff of a maternity ward, One Born Every Minute. Just a little bit different than a dating show.

Maya tries to explain to the monarch what her work entails, and says that she will soon be leaving for Spain to record the new season. “To see young people there speaking their tongues,” she explains. Well. Does this description really get Charles enthusiastic about her work? We don’t dare bet on it.
