The royal couple officially have coffee with their Swedish colleagues for the first time.
In February, Frederik and Mary announced that as the new royal couple they have planned a series of state visits at home and abroad. Today is the day that they visit their fellow royals in Sweden. On Instagram you can see how the king and queen arrived by boat in Stockholm.
On tour
Frederik and Mary did not have much time to settle down as the new king and queen of Denmark. State visits, official trips and stately meetings with important figures: it’s all part of being a monarch, and the new royal couple is already having to deal with it. They recently announced that they have planned a real tour through Europe.
On May 14 and 15, Frederik and Mary will make their appearance in Norway, after which they are expected to visit the Faeroe Islands and Greenland in June and July. But before that happens, their first official state visit starts today. The royal couple visits their royal colleagues in Sweden, and does so as only Scandinavian royals can: namely by boat.
Warm welcome
Instagram shows how Frederik and Mary’s ship lands in Stockholm, where the royal couple is warmly welcomed by Prince Daniel and Princess Victoria. The couples are clearly happy to see each other!

A state visit is of course not a state visit if stately photos are not taken, and yes: these have also already been shared by the Swedish and Danish royal families.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia and even the (now no longer so) little Princess Estelle and (still) little Prince Oscar: they are all there. The gentlemen dressed in smart suits as usual, the royal ladies as glamorous as ever.
The experts from Instagram account Royal Fashion Police tell us that Victoria’s pink dress is a new copy from the Swedish designer Christer Lindarw is. Queen Silvia wears a recycled outfit (yes) from LOEWE, Princess Sofia a new Veronica Virta gown and Queen Mary a dress from Mark Kenly Domino Tan. The large structure on her head – which is supposed to represent a bow, but does not look equally well from all angles – is a design by Jane Taylor. Because the queen naturally looks beautiful, we turn a blind eye to this this time.
