As a great lover of shoes, the queen could indulge herself here.
Proverbially speaking, we will never be in the shoes of our royals, but we can wear the same footwear. At least, if you love a good pair of heels as much as Queen Máxima. The queen is a great lover of beautiful shoes, and wears the most beautiful pairs. With her good taste, the queen often falls back on the same designers. Last week the queen visited the Schoenkwartier museum in Waalwijk, where she met up-and-coming talent and got a glimpse into the making of the most beautiful slippers.
Cultural heritage
Special attention to our traditional Dutch heritage, the wooden shoe, on this memorable day. Today this shoe is still in use, and how. Up-and-coming talent Maxim Verheul showed his vision of the clog to the queen, including a version that incorporates a sneaker. Innovative and certainly unique, but we doubt whether Máxima will trade in her beautiful heels for these ones.
Máxima’s enormous collection
It’s no secret that our queen is a big shoe lover. With more than 300 pairs in her wardrobe, the queen can wear a different pair almost every day of the year. With such a collection, the queen has also fully mastered the art of walking in high heels. Máxima even goes to great heights, because she no longer shrinks from a stiletto of thirteen centimeters. Máxima can now call herself a real connoisseur and has found her favorite brands. Of course the queen likes to wear heels from her Natan, the brand that Máxima likes to wear.
This list also includes the Italian brands Aquazzura and Gianvito Rossi. The latter is known for its great craftsmanship. His father Sergio Rossi once started the luxurious brand, using beautiful high-quality leather to create the most beautiful designs. And comfort was given an extremely important priority: if a shoe is not comfortable, it is not luxury, that is the essence of the brand. You also don’t have to expect any frills like studs, because according to the designer, that is not part of an elegant shoe. Sergio learned it from the best teacher, and now applies his years of knowledge in his profession. This results in beautiful, classic shoes that our queen loves to wear on her feet. So, if we want to feel what it’s like to literally walk in her (comfortable!) shoes, a pair of high heels from the aforementioned brands is the closest we’ll get.
Shoe Quarter
Bon, back to her visit to the museum in Waalwijk. Because which pair of high heels did the queen choose to parade around in this day? Unfortunately, largely hidden under her beautiful burgundy suit by Claes Iversen, the queen wore simple, elegant pumps in the same color by – you guessed it – Gianvito Rossi.

Museum
The museum reopened its doors in 2022. The museum shows how shoes used to be made in the past, and how young, innovative designers now work in the Shoe Lab, an associated learning center of the museum. For an enthusiast like Máxima, this is of course a delight!
A great highlight of the day, if you ask the Glamial editors, is the phenomenal show on the runway. Students clamber over all kinds of obstacles on the catwalk in the most impossible shoes, to the pure delight of our queen. A beautiful day full of attention for shoes, which our fashion queen undoubtedly enjoyed!
