The internet is full of tips and tricks about losing weight quickly and effectively, resulting in a lot of contradictory diets. We have listed for you which ones you should definitely not believe.

1. You need to eat 500 calories less than your daily needs to lose half a kilo every week

The first big myth is that you need to eat 500 calories less than your daily requirement to lose weight. Your daily recommended number of calories differs per person. It is best to determine this together with a personal trainer or nutritionist. One person benefits from two hundred fewer calories, while another can continue to eat the same amount, but needs to exercise more. So there is no set number of calories you need to cut to lose weight.

2. Training certain muscles ensures that you lose fat there

If you train your abdominal muscles for half an hour every day, this does not mean that you will lose belly fat. How do you lose that layer of fat? This largely has to do with your diet. When you follow a healthy diet, you notice that you lose fat in that area. When you train certain muscles a lot, they become stronger and bigger. When you lose fat, those muscles will look tighter, but the most important thing is your diet.

3. Losing weight means eating less and exercising more

Although exercise is good for you, eating less – especially if you exercise more – is not the intention. It is even extremely unhealthy to eat little if you exercise regularly (and intensively).
