A special heirloom!
Last weekend we saw Queen Camilla appear at the Easter service in St George’s Chapel with a beautiful brooch. The special brooch belonged to Camilla’s mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth, who had received the heirloom from her grandmother Queen Mary.
Easter
On Easter Sunday, the British royal family gathered as usual in Windsor for a special church service at St George’s Chapel. Despite King Charles’ illness, he and Camilla were also present. Camilla appeared in a beautiful green dress combined with a black cape coat. The beautiful brooch was pinned to the mantle. The brooch is three-colored and made of diamond, sapphire and emerald.
Centuries-old brooch
The brooch has been in the possession of the British royal family for more than a century. The original was the brooch of Queen Mary, the wife of King George V. She was photographed with the brooch for the first time in the early 1900s. After her death, the brooch was inherited by her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth. She wore the brooch a number of times during public occasions. Queen Elizabeth was photographed wearing the brooch for Angela Kelly’s book Dressing The Queen, which was created in honor of her Diamond Reign Jubilee in 2012. Meaningful color
The brooch looks a bit like a flower and is green, blue and silver – a perfect match for the green outfit Camilla wore to Easter mass. Princess Anne and Sarah Ferguson also appeared in a green outfit, which was not entirely coincidental. The color green has a deeper meaning for the British royal family.
The color Edinburgh green refers, among other things, to Prince Philip, whose staff wore this color. The color also has an important meaning for Princess Catherine. She wears it for a symbolic reason, such as during national Mental Health Awareness Week. During this week, the Wear It Green campaign was launched, a request for everyone to wear green to raise awareness for mental health.
