‘She is my rock.’
A great milestone for the Duke of Edinburgh yesterday. Prince Edward has turned 60 years old! Yet he did not keep the spotlight in which he stood on this special day completely to himself. When he joined ITV’s Love Your Weekend, he seized the opportunity to put his wife in the spotlight too.
My wife Sophie
Prince Edward is still clearly very happy with wife Sophie Rhys-Jones, and he shines brightest when the two make an appearance together. With her outgoing, outspoken character, Sophie is the perfect counterpart to her thoughtful husband. And the prince certainly doesn’t take that for granted after all these years. In ITV’s Love Your Weekend he speaks highly of his loving partner.
Support and support
During the television interview, host Alan Titchmarsh points out that Edward can always count on his wife’s support, just as the late Prince Philip always supported the late queen. Edward strongly agrees with this and talks about, among other things, a quality that he really appreciates in her. “She is critical, absolutely critical.”
“She is my rock and I am incredibly lucky that I found Sophie and she found me. Hopefully we have always been a brilliant duo,” said the proud husband. “We are privileged to have two, in our opinion, brilliant children who are taking such different paths for themselves. I think that’s just as fascinating.”
Duke Edward
Last year, the prince’s birthday was given extra splendor by King Charles. He provided his brother with a brand new title. Instead of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Edward and Sophie have since been known as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
It is not known exactly how the prince celebrated his birthday this year – but we are betting on a pleasant day with the family and of course his beloved other half. On to the next 25 years!
