Ten years ago, Michael Schumacher’s (54) life changed forever! The former Formula 1 driver died in a serious skiing accident in the French Alps on December 29, 2013. The seven-time world champion suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in an artificial coma for several months. Since the tragic skiing accident, the 54-year-old and his family have led a different life. Today marks the tenth anniversary of that fateful day: What happened in those hours?
According to Bild, there was the first report of the accident early at noon on December 29th: It was first reported that Michael had hit his head against a boulder. At exactly 11:53 a.m. the message came that the father of the family had been flown to the hospital in Albertville. Around an hour later, the former racing driver was transferred to the Grenoble University Hospital in France. Late in the afternoon it was reported that brain surgeon Professor Saillant was on his way to Grenoble from Paris.
Until late in the evening, no one knew what Michael’s health was like. It was only at 10:30 p.m. that the clinic confirmed that the former world champion was in a coma and needed emergency surgery. Six months after the accident, his manager opened Sabine Kehm (59) that he had woken up. Since then, there has been little information about the former racing driver’s current health condition – his family completely shields him from the public.
