5 tips from hairstylists for silky hair

This way you kiss your dry locks goodbye.

If you have dry hair, you can often fix it with just a little conditioner. Yet the result is usually not comparable to the perfect, shiny hairstyles in the shampoo commercials. Fortunately, according to hairstylists, there are a number of things you can do to achieve that shiny, silky soft cut reach.

1. Adjust your washing routine

The way your hair looks largely depends on how and when you wash it. Hairstylist Becca Raziuddin recommends washing your hair no more than two to three times a week with a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. In addition, according to Raziuddin, it is good to rinse with cold water. “This simple step helps close the hair cuticle, lock in moisture and keep your hair looking shiny and smooth.”

2. Brush your hair daily

Where it is not recommended to wash your hair daily, says hairstylist Cody Renegar in return for Women’s Health that it is important to brush it every day. Combing from roots to ends ensures that the natural oils are evenly distributed throughout your hair. “That will help you wash your hair less often, which can lead to excessive dryness and dull hair,” says Renegar.

3. Use a hair mask weekly

If you suffer from dry and dull hair, it can help to use a hair mask every week – even if you already use conditioner during your washes. According to Raziuddin, it is important when purchasing the mask to ensure that it is free of sulphates, parabens and sodium chlorides. Otherwise, you run the risk of your hair looking limp and greasy instead of bouncy and shiny.

4. Sleep on a silk pillowcase

Unless you lie perfectly still while you sleep, chances are your hair is rubbing back and forth on your pillow. This leads to damage with most materials, but by sleeping on a silk pillowcase you prevent friction and therefore prevent your hair from drying out at night.

5. Watch your diet

Beautiful skin, but also a shiny haircut, comes from within. What you eat and drink can have a major impact on how your locks look. “Silky, shiny hair starts from within and flows outward,” says hairstylist Kenna Ehman. “Eating plenty of healthy fats, such as fatty omegas, extra virgin olive oil, avocado, fish, etc., will help your hair become shinier.”
