King Willem-Alexander gives a speech to representatives of international organizations

And of course his radiant wife was also present.

King Willem-Alexander and his wife Queen Máxima received representatives of international organizations based in the Netherlands in the beautiful Royal Palace Amsterdam on Wednesday evening. The king gave a short speech during the dinner in which he stated, among other things, that international relations make the world a bit ‘safer’.

International organizations in the Netherlands

The evening focused on the Netherlands as a host country for international organizations. By this we mean organizations that have been established by treaty between at least two countries. Its presence promotes the Netherlands’ international network. The organizations also contribute to the innovation climate. The Netherlands is a host country for almost forty international organizations, a fact of which the king indicates that he is very proud. And for this reason, an undoubtedly exquisite dinner has been organized, where the guests are expected in style. The royal family dedicates a post to the meeting on Instagram:

The royal couple shared a fork with representatives from, among others, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Speech

Through Vorsten we learn that Willem-Alexander does not lose sight of the negative developments in the world of late in his speech. “There is so much violence, so much pain and sadness. So many places where shameless self-interest seems to win out over simple solidarity. Is it possible that international cooperation has had its day? The answer to that question is: ‘absolutely not’. A display of power at the expense of others has never led to sustainable solutions.” Well spoken, Your Majesty.

Outfit Maxima

The observant viewer will probably recognize the outfit in which Màxima dressed herself. For the occasion, the queen took out her ruby red dress that she wore on Budget Day in 2019. It is an elegant, ankle-length dress made of woolen crepe. She combines the chic item with a short cape, which is fully embroidered with shiny beads. Both the dress and the cape are by designer Jan Taminiau, says Josine Droogendijk of Fashion Queen Máxima.

Look at our queen proudly looking at her husband! The diamonds in Máxima’s earrings come from the well-known Stuart diadem. Fun fact: the first and only time we saw the Stuart tiara in its full glory was at a state banquet at Buckingham Palace in 2018.
