Want to become more sustainable? These are 5x environmentally conscious care products

It is a fact that we want to live an environmentally conscious life, but did you know that these care products can be even more sustainable?

1. Environmentally conscious lip balm

Lip balm, something we often like to apply, especially during cold days. You don’t have to go to the drugstore for this: you can easily make it yourself. To do this, mix together three tablespoons of vegetable oil, half a tablespoon of candelilla, a tablespoon of beeswax and a tablespoon of vegetable oil. You can optionally add ten to fifteen drops of essential oil for a nice scent: think of chamomile, lavender or thyme. Do you want to turn it into a lip balm of color? Then use alkanet root for a red or pink color.

2. Cotton pads

Make-up pads are made from cotton and therefore end up as residual waste. We use them every day, and that means that a lot of them have to be produced. Did you know that it takes an average of 10,000 liters of water to produce one kilo of cotton? It’s a shame if it goes straight into the trash after use. You can therefore switch to reusable cotton pads: you can wash these again and again, so you produce less waste and therefore live a more environmentally conscious life.

3. Razor blades

Get rid of those single-use plastic razor blades: disposable blades are generally worse for your skin and the environment. Therefore, invest in a good razor blade or purchase individual blades.

4. Shampoo

How many empty shampoo bottles do you throw in the trash every year? These bottles are made of plastic, many of which cannot even be recycled. Only a few brands sell plastic-free shampoo in a bottle or pack, but these are often very expensive and difficult to find. That’s why our tip: shampoo bars! This packaging-free shampoo lasts about eighty washes, and you basically use it like a bar of soap, but on the hair. This replaces approximately three bottles of shampoo and even makes it easier to take with you when traveling. Good to live an environmentally conscious life!

5. Toothpaste

You may get where we’re going with this, but toothpaste comes in plastic tubes. After being thrown away, these tubes end up in the landfill, and that’s not just yours, but those of millions of people. Do the math: that’s billions of tubes of toothpaste! So not so environmentally conscious. You can therefore opt for toothpaste tablets: these melt in your mouth, so you can simply brush as you normally would. Think of it as a peppermint that is good for your teeth. These also come in reusable bottles, so you don’t have to worry about contamination. You can also make your own toothpaste: melt two tablespoons of coconut oil and stir in a tablespoon of baking soda. Add ten to fifteen drops of essential oil, a menthol oil is recommended. You can add half to a whole teaspoon of xylitol to make the homemade toothpaste taste a little sweeter.
