This new Gen Z marketing trend on TikTok is genius

Good marketing requires creativity. A new marketing trend has emerged on TikTok that companies are using in a very funny way. And of course Gen Z is behind it.

Gen Z writes the script

The trend is actually quite simple: put an employee, or sometimes the owner, of a company in front of the camera and have them read a script written by a Gen Z. In other words, you get a script that is full of slang from the younger generation. For example, every video under this trend is full of words such as slay, pookie, rizz, vibe and many more. And the funniest thing about this trend is that the narrator of the video often comes from a slightly older generation, such as Gen X or the Baby Boomers. This makes the use of words such as besties and it’s giving feel a bit weird and that only makes it more fun. In addition, the application of these sentences and statements is extra funny when you use it for things that could be taken very seriously. The trend is now being applied by very large companies, but also by smaller companies such as shops or, for example, the fishmonger around the corner!

The trend is hilarious, but also incredibly clever. When you execute the trend well, you not only make your viewers laugh, but you also effectively inform them about your company. By means of the trend, a company can easily show and tell what they sell or what services they provide. And of course, it creates brand awareness, which is often an important goal for marketing.

Gen Z and online marketing

This isn’t the first time a Gen Z TikTok trend has gone completely viral. Earlier, there was a trend where the Gen Z intern or social media manager was brought in to edit the video. The result: a hilarious video in which very little is actually said, but still a lot. The videos were filled with shots where the person in the picture was doing nothing but breathing, and for some reason, it’s a hilarious hit on social media.

There is an interesting shift happening in the field of marketing. Gen Z is now coming of age, graduating and entering the workforce. This generation is currently very influential in the marketing field. Who knows where the latest trends will take us!
