Veggilaine (Ghislaine) is a food influencer. She shares videos with recipes and tips for all vegans. A few days ago, Ghislaine posted a video sharing her favorite snack: crackers with cottage cheese and crispy chili oil. A few days later, Ghislaine was surprised to see an almost identical video appear on Ellemieke’s TikTok. Ellemieke Vermolen shares exactly the same recipe with the same explanation. Hmm.. Criticism of Ellemieke Vermolen
Not only Ghislaine has noticed this, many viewers also see that Ellemieke copies recipes from others, pretending that they are her own. Many TikTok users quickly noticed the similarity in this video. “I really like your videos! But I see more and more completely copied videos, where you don’t give any credits to the creator. It would be nice if you did this,” for example, someone writes under Ellemieke’s video.

At first Ellemieke denies all accusations and she reacts fiercely to the criticism: “When I copy something, I always do it like with the cucumber salad. Unfortunately, the wheel has already been invented. I have been eating this snack for years,” she says. A lot of TikTok – users tagged Veggilaine under the video. “Is this a joke? Almost parroted Ghislaine word for word?”, someone responds. Ghislaine then responds light-heartedly to Ellemieke’s video: “Omg twin!” she writes. Then Ellemieke Vermolen sneers: “Yessss omg I see it with you now! My crackers and chili oil taste better.” Oh dear, that’s where the riot begins…

After that last comment, Ghislaine is completely done with it. “One of the nicest things for me is when people follow my tips, get my snacks, put their own twist on it. But when people really copy or imitate me down to the last point and comma, then I think of the unwritten rule that applies: just give credit to the person you saw that idea with, because then that’s okay too. For example, I just wrote a cookbook and there are maybe four or five recipes in it that are inspired by recipes from others and I put that there, but if you don’t do that, it comes very close to plagiarism.”
